How much does it cost?
€9.99 on Steam. Until November 4 it has a 10% launch discount, bringing it down to €8.99. It's paid, unlike Project: Playtime, which was free.
Will the price go up?
Yes. Mob plans to raise the price when version 1.0 launches, once enough content has been added. What it hasn't said yet is by how much.
If I buy it now, will I have to pay more when the price goes up?
No. On Steam
you pay once and it's yours: the 1.0 price increase only affects people who buy it after that. Updates up to
version 1.0 come at no extra cost, which is how Early Access works. That's why buying it now is cheaper. There's no
paid DLC either: the only extra content is the
Founders Pack, and it's free.
What is the Founders Pack? Do you have to pay for it?
It's a
free DLC that came out on October 21 too. All it needs is the base game, and it brings three things: an
arcade machine collectible, the
Shining Critters skin pack and a
Miss Delight emote. You add it from its Steam page with "Add to Library". And the arcade machine hides some lore: a
new character, an evil wizard.
What platforms is it on?
For now, only on Steam, for PC (Windows 10/11). There's no macOS or Linux version, and consoles remain an unconfirmed future possibility.
Why is it in Early Access?
Mob explains it on Steam: this stage is meant to be developed together with the community. They have a roadmap, but the pace will depend on player feedback, and with it they'll keep adding features, environments, items and characters, and tuning the balance.
How long will Early Access last?
The goal is around a year, although Mob makes it depend on "the core of the game being firmly rooted in the community".
What will change in version 1.0?
According to Mob, it will have much more content, better balance, bug fixes, better performance, wider compatibility, lore and story and "lots of surprises". What there isn't yet is a final list of what's included.
What does the latest update bring?
Besides
public lobbies: the
quota now scales with the number of players, health and flashlight battery refill after each shift, there's a
lost and found box for the cave pit and the timer moves to the HUD. CatNap chases better,
KickinChicken drops to 20,000 quota and
notes, posters and VHS tapes add story. On
October 30 a
minor bug-fix update also arrived: three
Halloween emotes, started or full lobbies no longer show up in the list, Barry's quota meter calculates the percentage correctly, the
Trash Shield works as intended and
Separation Anxiety is out of the modifier pool for now while it is rebalanced. The full summary is in
our news.
What is it about?
It's a first-person co-op horror game where you play as the Smiling Critters, not as a human. A mysterious Voice sends you into the Playtime Co. factory to collect materials and get them out, with Barry, the cart from Chapters 2 and 4, as the extraction vehicle.
Can you play solo?
It's built for groups: the Steam page now says 2 to 8 players, online. It used to say 1 to 8: Mob changed it on the night of October 21, a few hours after launch. With more people you have to coordinate, and that's where proximity voice chat comes in: the monsters can hear you too.
Are there public matches?
Yes, since the “Public Lobbies” update: you can create and join lobbies from the main menu, there's a
quick play option that puts you in a random group, and the host can
kick troublemakers. It was the most requested feature: until then you could only play with friends. We cover it in
our news about the update.
Do the maps change every run?
Barely. They aren't procedural: each run changes a detail or two, but the map is almost always the same, and after a few runs it gets repetitive. That's what El Terror de Pepe pointed out while playing it.
How did the launch go? What are the reviews like?
Weak. Less than a day after release, it had
57.76% positive reviews out of 623 ("Mixed" on Steam) and a
peak of 3,534 concurrent players. Chapter 5, by comparison, sits at 77.86% out of more than 8,600 reviews. The criticism focuses on the
time limit and the quota, the
lack of public matches and the
repetitive maps. A week later it has improved: on
October 29 it was at
69.78% out of about 2,000 reviews, and Mob has already added public matches. And on
October 31 it is already at
71.97%, which on Steam moves it up to
"Mostly Positive". We cover it in
our post on the Escape from Playtime reviews.
What enemies are there?
At launch, a starting area and a basic set of enemies. The most visible one is Miss Delight, the teacher from Chapter 3, who chases the Critters through the classrooms. There are also mid-run events, like the "Zoomies", that affect the whole team.
Is it canon? When does it take place?
Yes, it's canon in the Poppy Playtime universe, and it takes place some time after the Hour of Joy. Who or what the Voice giving the orders is remains one of the open mysteries.
Who is the Voice?
Nobody knows yet. The notes and posters from the latest update warn about her: «The Voice lies», «You can fight back», «Don't let them repeat the past». They refer to her with female pronouns and hint that there could be more than one voice.
Does owning Project: Playtime give you anything?
Yes: a
Project: Playtime hoodie for your Critter. On the character select screen it shows up locked with the message "Acquire and play Project: Playtime to unlock". A nod to the game it replaces.
El Terror de Pepe found it in his
launch gameplay (at 15:24), which also shows the four starting Critters:
Bobby BearHug, CatNap, DogDay and Hoppy Hopscotch.
Does it have anything to do with Chapter 6?
A separate team makes it and it doesn't slow down Chapter 6, but its files keep dropping clues: the beta contained the
first Chapter 6 leak, and after the latest update people found a «
LudwigHouse_Main» folder and a hidden
mansion with the same wallpaper as the teaser. They suggest we'll explore
Elliot Ludwig's house.
How can I give feedback on the game?
The
Mob Entertainment Discord is the main channel, with
dedicated Escape from Playtime channels. Mob promises polls on specific topics and to explain which changes come from community suggestions.
How do I report a bug?
The game includes a bug reporting tool you can use from inside the match itself.
Was there a beta?
Yes: a
limited-access Open Beta from October 1, run with FirstLook.gg, which has now ended.
El Terror de Pepe's gameplay shows how it worked.
Why was it called Experiment 82626?
It was a
codename hiding the date of its own reveal: 82626 splits into 8 · 26 · 26,
August 26, 2026 in US format. That day Mob showed the trailer at Gamescom's Future Games Show and the Steam page was renamed Escape from Playtime. We published it as a hypothesis and
it came true.
When was the release date announced?
With the release date trailer at the
PC Gaming Show 2026 in Tokyo. The Steam page went from "Coming soon" to
October 21, 2026. The
release date breakdown is on the blog.
